Subject: Note: improved ”mastering” uploaded
I love this recording. In many ways it's better than the albums. Only problem is (in my opinion) is that it needs some volume boosting and EQ-treatment.
So I processed the sound:
I have used a lowcut filter (50Hz/6db), EQ boost (2000Hz and above), and a compressor to bring out more of the energy. There are still some flaws, but it definitely is more powerful this way. Good for listening in Ipod etc.
I have uploaded MP3-versions, tagged as:
Godspeed You Black Emperor! L'Olympic 2003-05-14 REMASTERED (1.0)
Out of all the Godspeed shows I've downloaded, this one gets the most play.
Having "Albanian" and "Gamelan" in the set is what makes this a treasure.
Subject: Best Godspeed show I've yet heard.
Two awesome unreleased songs, plus a fantastic setlist, including the best version of "Moya" I've ever heard. It's not too slow or anything; it's just perfect. And the buildup is intense even by Godspeed standards. The only thing missing that would have made this set perfect is "The Sad Miafoso."
The only problem is the sound quality. It has a very nice, up-front feel, but I agree with IainTreloar: the loud parts are a bit too noisy, not because of the band but the microphone. Still, this is the definitive Godspeed show.

Subject: Fantastic show.
It's a pain in the arse actually downloading the files, the converter, then converting them to WAV, then to Mp3 so I can finally listen to them, but it's so worth it in the end. The recording quality is almost perfect.
Best live act ever.
Thank you very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very
much for making this happen.
I have been waiting all of my life for this track and for all that matter, this set.
This/They are/were/will always be lifechanging for me.
Thank you for archiving this concert.
Best live show I've heard, excellent quality, great setlist, it all comes together, only complaints are the cut in Gamelan (the cut is handled pretty well though) and the SHN encoding (annoying to convert, not for any technical reasons), (http://etree.org/mkw.html) to get a SHN->WAV converter btw.
Subject: FAQ -its there for a reason...
not to be a dick, but you need to read the FAQ
I taught my dad (49) how to do this shit, he doesn't even use the comp at all, and if he can do it, you can too.
now go to etree, and read the FAQ.
good luck and good day
Subject: sounds amazing
i would really like to download this... i did download it it then i expanded it but it opens in sml and shn files which i am unfamiliar with what do i do.
5 stars for the show. Albanian and Gamelan are essential listening for any Godspeed fan, and they chose crowd favourites for the rest of the setlist. Your taste may vary.
4.5 stars for the sound quality. The bass isn't too boomy, the percussion is crisp, and the balance between the strings and the guitars is good. I think some clipping removal has been done but, if so, it's been done well.
Subject: Gamelan and Albanian? Heck yes.
As far as I know, this is one of the few shows in which GYBE! played Gamelan and Albanian, two fabulous, thus far unreleased songs. The fact that this recording has both Gamelan and Albanian, as well as a superb version of Moya and some fabulous passages off 'Lift Yr. Skinny Fists...' makes this one of the best live Godspeed You Black Emperor recordings I've ever heard. Only thing missing from this being perfect is 3rd Part, but hey, can't be picky.
Recording quality is very good indeed, almost as good as a studio album; however, when the music picks up in volume, it sounds as if the microphone might have been struggling to take all the incoming sound. This is really quite minor, however, so 5 stars for this one.
